LOST TREASURE:  DEEP COVER (1992)

In the 40s, they used to crank out tough, stylish 'B' crime dramas.  Here's one in the 90s.  A preternaturally calm yet increasingly conflicted Larry Fishburne holds the movie together as an undercover cop who deals his way deeper and deeper into the L.A. drug world.  Who would have guessed Jeff Goldblum as his dealing partner, but he's great, and even chilling at times.  The smart script by pros Michael Tolkin and Henry Bean makes some cutting political points among the brutal twists.  The direction by Bill Duke and cinematography by Bojan Bazelli is super-stylish yet never in the way.  Perfectly realized on all fronts.
